Interior Designing For Your New Home

Interior Designing

Once your house has been built, and all the finishing touches have been made to the exterior and interior, it is time to start the interior design! Interior designing for your new home is the best part for some! You get to choose the colours, the flooring, kitchen styles and all the little knick knacky things to put around the house!

Time To Be Inspired!

Before beginning the interior design for your new home, you need to think about what you are trying to create.  You need to get inspired and creative. It’s time to search for color schemes, patterns, flooring, furniture, textures amongst many things.   It’s a good idea to look at display homes, take notice of buildings and houses you visit and see what you like and don’t like, google images, check out Pinterest, look through magazines and talk to people to get advice.  It’s important to have an idea and direction of what you are trying to create for your home.

Choosing The Flooring

Choosing your floor is going to set the tone for the rest of your home.  You can choose tiles, floorboards, lino, polished concrete, carpet all depending on the style of the home. There is a wide range of tiles, carpets or floorboards you can choose from with different colors, patterns, shapes and sizes.  Some people will choose different floors for different rooms but it will depend on how your home is designed and what rooms need to have a particular type flooring such as bathrooms, laundrys and kitchens. It really pays to talk to an expert to make sure you are choosing the right flooring for the style of your house.

Your New Kitchen

When you are looking to design your kitchen you can start with choosing the type of countertop, cupboard styles, handles, type of sink, taps etc. Kitchen accessories come in many styles with the prices to match! It can get quite expensive so make sure you have a budget in mind and shop around.  Remember interior design isn’t about being fancy it’s about what atmosphere you are trying to create.

Colour Schemes

You may begin to look at the color scheme you would like in your home, this includes the paint on walls, colors of furniture, wall pictures, cupboards, shelving, flooring etc. Many people nowadays have a neutral colour scheme for a long lasting finish effect in their homes. Neutral doesn’t everyone so if you like colors you can certainly choose colors you just need to be careful you can co-ordinate them without clashing. It’s a good idea to think about the color scheme in terms of the whole house or if you want to have color schemes for different rooms in the house.  If it gets overwhelming just look at one room at a time.

Keep It Simple

Interior designing for your new home can be overwhelming because there is such a wide variety of options to choose from. There are so many choices and you probably have never even thought of what style sink tap you want to have in your home or if you want chrome, silver or gold. So when you’re starting the interior design for your new home, keep it simple. For example, keep a neutral color scheme throughout the house and add a splash of color for each room with pillows, rugs or wall pictures.  You will be able to create a different feel and mood without having to try to coordinate too many things.
